Great Lakes by DesignGreat Lakes by Design features Eastmark Construction’s Glen Lake “Sunset Drive” project in its most recent issue, Raising the Bar. The piece is entitled “The woven coastal cottage landscape.”

We appreciate how well Great Lakes by Design described the way we work with our clients to craft the one-of-a-kind dream homes we build:

“Rooted in the sentiment that the custom home process has the ability to leave behind a testament of existence and a personal impression in the built environment, Eastmark Construction is a collaborative company of craftsmen and building professionals founded in 2007. Established with a goal of creating custom homes in Northern Michigan, Darooge noted he wanted to create a company steeped in customer service, had a hands-on presence on-site, and worked on meaningful and important projects for people creating a space for themselves and their family after a lifetime of hard work and toil.

“‘We are usually heavily involved from concept on through to when the homes are done and we usually maintain our relationship with our customers for years afterward,’ Darooge said. ‘We get close, personally, in some cases because of how important these homes tend to be for people. They are emotional and they are building it sometimes to be a generational place.’

“With Eastmark Construction brought in early on in the process, Darooge said the clients really put their trust in the collaborative team, leveraging his team’s experience in lakeshore construction and the architectural team’s experience designing lakeshore homes. ‘They brought to the table a lot of ideas in terms of pictures and photographs, but they placed quite a bit of the onus on our design and build team to come up with this,’ Darooge said. ‘The house itself has a very unique design. It has a center section with two wings and looks different from every aspect. It seems like two different houses almost, but there is continuity due to the detail work, the colors, and how things are put together.’”

This article also explains how architectural firms, construction companies, landscaping companies, and even audio and video integration companies like A Better Sound in Traverse City work together. We cooperate with the owners to make every aspect of the home operate seamlessly for the family’s vision, comfort, and convenience.

This issue – which contains other wonderful articles on work being done by artists and builders in the area – is available on Great Lakes by Design’s site. For more pictures of “Sunset Drive” on our site, click here.

Lake Living, a Northern Michigan Lifestyle

lake living

Michigan is the “Great Lakes State.” In addition to being surrounded by four of the five Great Lakes, there are more than 11,000 inland lakes in the state. If you live in Michigan you are never farther away than 85 miles from one of the Great Lakes or six miles from an inland lake. Still most Michiganders spend their lives dreaming of lake living without moving forward and taking steps to make it a reality.

What do people give as their reason for relocating to Northern Michigan? To live a slower, more relaxing and family centered lifestyle. There are so many wonderful aspects to lake living. Here are some great reasons why people love lake living with two examples of where some of the best lake living in Michigan can be found.

A Variety of Activities

There are so many different ways to fully and generously enjoy lake life, from birding to boating, sunbathing to jet skiing. A lake offers tubing, water skiing, wakeboarding in the summer and skating and ice fishing in the winter. If you want an active lifestyle, lake living offers so many at-home choices beyond running or walking. It’s easy to stay fit when you can swim, canoe, and explore nature. Both exercise and the lapping sound of waves also have a calming effect on the mind and body, so lake living is great for relaxing, meditating and improving your physical and mental health.

Built-in Entertaining

Everyone wants to be at the lake, so if you have a lake house, your home will automatically be a destination place. It’s easy to throw a party at the lake because people love recreating on the water. All of the things you enjoy doing on the lake, you can do with your friends and family. And there’s nothing like a cookout with bonfire to make lasting memories with your loved ones.

lake living 2Another beautiful thing about lake living is that because so much of it happens outdoors, you get to know your neighbors. New opportunities for socializing crop up spontaneously. There are many lakes that are known for their parties and entertainment. Torch Lake, Michigan’s own slice of the Caribbean, has crystal clear turquoise waters and a wonderful, white sandbar. Because of its natural beauty, the lake draws people from all over the world, including the rich and famous, but its clear, turquoise waters also offer a welcoming place for kids to play and learn to swim. You can even buy food on the lake at Dave’s Burger Barge if your family gets hungry after burning off the calories in Torch Lake!

Another destination lake is Lake Charlevoix. There is always something to do at Lake Charlevoix, but in July, during the Venetian Festival, the activity really ramps up. From Aquapalooza to Worship on the Water to street and boat parades to Kid’s Day activities to rich lineup of local and national musical talent, there’s something for everyone all week long. There is art to view and purchase, storytelling, and even a beauty pageant to watch or compete in.

Northern Michigan has many such festivals because Michiganders know how to appreciate good weather and summer’s warmth while it lasts. They don’t take it for granted. This is another reason living in Northern Michigan excels – all summer long is one long celebration, so if you need additional activities besides the one your lake offers, there is always another festival happening up and down the coast of Lake Michigan or at one of the smaller lakes.

At Eastmark Construction, we have a saying: Live generously. We’ve seen many of our clients plan their lake lifestyle and focus their efforts to achieve it. If you’ve spent long enough dreaming and would like to begin planning and building your future at your lake house, contact us today. We make dreams – and dream homes – come true.

Eastmark is featured in July’s issue of Cosmopolitan Home Grand Rapids!

We are honored to have our work featured in the Summer 2018 issue of Cosmopolitan Home Grand Rapids, beginning on page 32.

“Step through the front door and you immediately appreciate how perfectly the home has been situated. Glen Lake is the focal point and its iridescent shades of blue will be reflected throughout the day from morning to sunset.”

Cosmopolitan Home highlighted the beautiful work of Eastmark’s master finish carpenter, Mark Andres, and gave an excellent summary of how Eastmark’s process works to bring value and satisfaction to our clients:

“Eric’s goal was to present cost-cutting options where it made sense, but also ensure building quality incorporating the latest technology to keep the home in good stead for future generations. The owners agreed to use a high-performance building system of insulated foam core sandwiched between structural facings called Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS). ‘It’s almost like building the house twice because you skin the original structure to add the panels, but it results in an amazingly well-insulated, energy-efficient home,’ explained Eric.

“‘Eric had many ideas on how to value engineer the project without sacrificing aesthetics and quality,’ continued the homeowner. ‘He gave us real world knowledge of how certain aspects and features would play out in the Northern Michigan landscape. We had total confidence in him and his team after our first call with him.’”
